iClassicalScores App Reviews

Not yet IMSLP

I have been able to find nearly any public domain piece (within reason), which is great. But every single time that I open the app, a third of the scores have to re-download. A few have never even been able to download in the first place! I realize the there is the option to open the free cache, but I have not chosen that option. Also, I can only find a piece by searching for its composer, then scrolling through. The actual name gets me nowhere. Good, but it has some flaws.

Searching for improvement

This is a great tool and resource, however, the search feature almost never gets me to what I need. Usually searching the composer and scrolling through works, but it would be so much better if I could search the piece I want and have it come up. Even with all the correct info the app requires (title of piece, opus, and composer)I will often come up short.

Worth every penny

This is such a great app...especially if you frequent IMSLP for your music. Annotation is a buggy in some areas (stamps mostly) but the ability to hand write and highlight is just awesome. I even bought the developers metronome for my iPhone when playing. There is a built in metronome in the app and its handy when looking at pieces, but not as customizable as the stand alone metronome app. Kudos!!!!

I needed etudes

After dabbling in piano playing for decades, I started playing more seriously a few months back when I retired. It soon became clear that to progress exercise and etudes are important. (Per Playing the Piano for Pleasure by Charles Cooke.) I have a bookcase of music to play, but no Hanon, nor etudes. (I sent them to college with a son.) This app connects me to a huge database of public domain music. I really like the convenience of easily and quickly downloading them. The iPad screen is large enough to use for reading music at the piano. Before this I was downloading pdf files and putting them Kindle. That was tedious. On an iPad air it has performed quite nicely.

Excellent

So glad I got this app. Its great to have scores at ones fingertips (literally). One thing that would be really nice but is almost certainly not feasible would be a way to purchase (via IAP) scans of scores still under copyright in ones own country. Its frustrating finding a score only to discover that it is still under copyright. Another issue is that the app seems to be eating up a lot of my memory even after deleting scores. A suggestion for improvement would be a way to flag certain scans as illegible/poor from within the app. Also, it would be nice to have the ability to straighten certain pages of scores that were not aligned properly when scanned. Other than that, awesome app. Recommended.

Bad I cant find any score that i want

I doesnt find the scores

Inadequate and misleading

Difficult to import scores, for example wont use Google drive and from ismlp says password required. Does NOT do annotations, must buy 2nd app. For Score odds worlds better.

Great app to use sheetmusic

Excellent app, but needs a few tweaks

Great app for score study and light, introductory practice. (You really should own the actual parts too if youre an aspiring orchestral musician). A few tweaks would make it easier to use: Bookmarking or opening to the last page you were on would be really handy, especially for those longer romantic scores. Also, the ability to download individual parts by themselves (trumpet 3 only for example) would be a real space saver.

Awesome app.

Such a handy tool to have. Necessity to accompanists. Just wish the apple pencil worked remotely well with it... Maybe an update please???

I use this app

I like this app very much. I use it mostly for piano practice. I found out of print practice books that I like. I am looking forward to the iOS 9 updates. Having loading a bunch of vocal practice pieces now too, Id like to use split screen to play out the notes with Orpheus and practice (silently) on the airplane.

Not bad

Seems to be okay so far, I mean Ive only just started to use it but I like the way everything works so far... Will make another review once I have more experience with this but all in all Im pretty happy with how easy all this is.

ML

Needs revision. Cant open scores. Keeps crashing.
